Alt-J and Fleetwood Mac

Alt-J Alt-J, also pronounced “∆”, is a fun, unique band from the UK. The singer sounds like a sleepy Kermit the Frog. Definitely not everyone’s cup o' tea, but you don’t come here to listen to what everyone else does. Their whole KEXP performance is worth a good listen. Fleetwood Mac I’ve had this song stuck in my head lately by Fleetwood Mac. I haven’t listened to too much of their music other than the infamous “landslide” song....

Summertime

My daughter has played this song a few times for me called, “Doin' Time” by Lana Del Rey. I had to explain to her that there is a better version, and that this was just a cover of Sublime’s hit track below: Little did I know the rabbit hole this would take me down. Dredg

The greatest band you’ve never heard of —Dredg My little bros introduced me to this band, Dredg about 15 years ago. They are such a great original rock band, and hard to define their genre. The Avalanches

This is a quick one for today. Sugar Hill Gang Avalanches came up as a recommendation I believe as I was listening to Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight.” I never realized that this song was pure disco with someone rapping over the top of it. Still a great classic though: Avalanches I was pleasantly surprised by this Avalanches song, “Because I’m Me.” Please watch it since the film adds a lot to the experience....

Oysterhead

What happens when you mix some great musicians from Primus, The Police, and Phish? Is it “P-cubed?” Or “P-To-The-Three?” As much fun as those play on words would be, the correct answer is Oysterhead. Oysterhead is one of those infamous supergroups, consisting of Les Claypool, Stewart Copeland, and Trey Anastasio. This unlikely, bizarre trio came together to perform what should have been just a one-time jam session —but as luck would have it, they have performed together multiple times, and they recently announced an upcoming reunion slated for Feb of 2020!...
